As an American four-square house with Colonial Revival ornament, this brick residence exemplifies a popular turn-of-the-century house type. Paired Ionic columns support a one-story porch which shelters an entrance door that is flanked by leaded-glass transom. A central hipped dormer projects from the hipped roof of this two-story three-bay residence.
The double-pile layout of the interior contains a side passage plan with a grand staircase along paneled walls. Large fireplaces consist of high mantels, facings of Rockwood tiles, and copper accents. A fireplace mantel stands in the library to the left of the entrance. The mantel was taken from the log house of Boonesborough trustee Robert Rodes (1759-1818) that once stood on the site now occupied by Eastern Kentucky University . A collector of fine antiques, Sarah Burnam Greenleaf was the daughter of Judge A. R. Burnam whose house (MANW-16) stands adjacent.
