Help:How to add content
From Placeography
You're invited to add your house or building to Placeography.org
Choose your own home, your ancestor’s house, your favorite hangout then or now, or any building that interests you. You don’t have to know all about a building to create a page – you can add more information later or let others add to what you write.
- Search for your house or building by entering your address in the search box.
If there is no match, you can create an entry. The first and very important step is to establish the name for your house or building. The name may be on a sign on your house or building. Otherwise, your research may reveal the first, longest, or most significant owner. If you’re not sure, just enter the complete address, spelling out words like Saint, Street, Avenue, and Minnesota. - Next you will enter the form area where you fill out a series of boxes. Some of the information will be easy to complete, like house number or city. Others may be more difficult or even unknown, like architect or first owner. You can always go back and edit your entry as you have more information.
- In the larger boxes below there’s room to add free text (no code needed) describing your house in the building intro box and including some history in the building chronology box. There you can list names of owners and occupants, changes to the house, and different uses over time.
- In the memory box you can add your own personal recollection of visiting the house as a child, fixing up the house and finding old objects in the walls, or other remarkable events.
- Please cite your sources. Let others know how you acquired this information, which will give them guidance for doing their own research.
- If you have historic or current photographs for which you own copyright or have permission, you can upload them to Placeography. Once they are uploaded you can link them to your page.
Uploading and linking images to Placeography.org

- You have now created a page where the information and description resides.
- To link the image to a page about a particular building, architect, site or structure, go to that page. For example, if you have a photograph of 123 Main Street, Anywhere, Your State, go to the building page for that address. Click on edit with form on the top tab of the article page. Scroll down to the box Building Image 1. Enter the file name followed by a period and the file type. For example, pf039663.jpg or nortonres.tiff

- On a new "City, State" page add the following code: {{Query/locality and province}}
- On a new "County, State" page add the following code: {{Query/county_and_province}}
