Significant details: "South facade of grandstand has a rounded arched entrance with iron gate flanked by six additional rounded arches. Light cornice."
Additions and alterations: "Painted grey and red. Arches possibly filled in."
Significant site and landscape features: "Adjacent to the Athletic field, Pierce Butler Route, the former site of Midway Stadium and railroad tracks."
Historical background: "Norton field was built for a cost of $28,000. It was named for Mathew Norton, a Winona businessman whose firm Norton-Laird Lumber Company later merged with Weyerhaeuser Company. Norton was on the Hamline University Board from 1878-1916."
Statement of significance: "An interesting, mildly Beaux Arts stadium."
