This frame church building was erected in 1873 under the direction of Madison Campbell (1823-1896), a former slave and black Baptist preacher. Campbell pastored Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, as well as several other congregations, until his death in 1896. (See MANE-2)
The church building is a one-and-one-half story rectangular building with two entrances on the gable end. Gothic pointed arches form lights above each of the doors. The lights are ornamented with simple tracery. A cut limestone foundation supports the entire gable-roofed structure.
