The Gunflint Trail runs 57 miles (92 kilometers) from Grand Marais on the North Shore of Lake Superior to Lake Saganaga near the Ontario, Canadian border. Originally it was a footpath but now it is a paved two-lane road (County Road 12) that allows access to the Superior National Forest and parts of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) Wilderness. The Gunflint is a Minnesota Scenic Byway.
