Brandhorst Apartment Building (1251 Mahtomedi Avenue). This apartment complex, built in 1927, previously hosted a tea room (“Polly’s Kettle”), the “Jolly Knight’s Tavern”, “Aunt Tilia’s Bakery”, “Rosie’s Restaurant”, and the “Second Base Tavern” run by Ray Rollings (a famous baseball player back in the day). Slot machines and punch boards were legal for a time and these were very popular at the Second Base Tavern until Luther Youngdahl (before he became Governor) outlawed gambling in 1941. This building also housed Lincolntown Service and had gas pumps in front of the building. The building was also home of the Mahtomedi Water Department for a time
