Date of site visit 1/29/82. Fieldworker: G. Whitney
The fenstration is "1/1 rectangular and fixed pane," with a "hipped" roof style. The building has "one interior brick" chimney" and is built with a "wood frame."
Significant details: "Wide overhanging eaves with large modillions. Hipped roof dormer with gable returns topped by finial. Open porch with classical frieze with dentils and modillions. Three part window on front with geometricleaded glass transom, sidelights, architraves, and dentils.
Significant site and landscape features: "Close to Hamline University and Hamline United Methodist Church."
Legal description: "North 40 feet of Lots 11-12, Block 8, Hamline Plat Addition"
Historical background: "The original owner of this house, which was built for $3,500, was C.M. Brettscheider. In the 1901 city directory, Christopher M. Schneider, carpenter, was residing at 1042 Edmund. Also, there was a note in the margin of the building permit that said:
"Mr. A. Adams-owner
Supt. of the St. Paul Foundry Co.
Residence 1538 Capitol Avenue."
