Property Description: 3 stories; asymmetrical, brick building; Chapel has front gabled roof with bell tower and spire as central focus; elaborate Rose window on Chapel entrance reaches into gable; northern portion of western façade (1922 addition) is parapeted with towers; addition has a pilastered entry with rectangular transom and arched brickwork above; stained glass windows are abundant on exterior of structure.
“This 1894 church was erected to serve German immigrants in North Minneapolis. The building’s cornerstone reads ‘Evan. Lutheran St. Petri Kirche/1894.’ The brick building has a 1922 addition on the north elevation. This brick church building features a bell tower with spire, two smaller towers at the corners, and stained-glass windows. This church building is recommended for local designation under Criterion 1, as a good example of a late-nineteenth century church constructed in North Minneapolis to serve its growing ethnic population.” 1
