The building permit lists the original owner of this house as D. H. Tandy. The 1889 city directory lists Douglas H. Tandy, a real estate agent, living on the south side of Van Buren, 2 houses west of Simpson, which is probably referring to this house. The house was built for an estimated $2,400. This house is one of the best preserved of several houses of the same vintage on this block. The oriel window and decorative wood shingling on the dormer are especially interesting.
