Memories and stories
Memory
The Emporium was a major department store. The basement had a bakery; and grocery and meats department. They would grind your coffee beans for you in a very large, red grinder. My mother, Anne Johnson, started working there in the bakery in 1922. She later became the cashier in the grocery department, and worked there until it closed. The employees were great people and a very close-knit group.
